Representatives of the Albanian-American community, led by the Albanian American Relations Council (AARC), met with Chairwoman Lisa McClain to discuss strengthening U.S. engagement in the Western Balkans and advancing policy priorities for Albanians in the region. A key proposal from AARC President Martin Vulaj was the reactivation of the Congressional Albanian Caucus, which McClain supported, with plans for an upcoming event to align members and focus on regional strategy. She emphasized that effective policymaking in Washington requires both clearly defined challenges and actionable solutions.
Discussions also centered on regional security and diplomacy, particularly the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue. Vulaj stressed that mutual recognition should remain the ultimate goal, while criticizing Europe’s leadership and calling for stronger U.S. involvement. Participants highlighted Kosovo’s potential NATO membership as critical for regional stability and U.S. interests, noting that it would help counter Russian and Chinese influence and reinforce security across the interconnected Western Balkans.
The meeting further addressed concerns about the rights of Albanians in neighboring countries, including alleged discrimination in Serbia and incomplete implementation of language and education rights in North Macedonia. Attendees, including prominent political figures, reaffirmed their commitment to continued collaboration and advocacy aimed at promoting stability, equality, and democratic development in the region.
