AARC Meets with State Department Senior Advisor Samuel L. Samson to Discuss Balkans, Security, and Regional Development
Washington, D.C. – The President of the Albanian American Relations Council (AARC) met this week with Samuel L. Samson, Senior Advisor to the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor. Mr. Samson, a key figure in shaping State Department policy in the Balkans and beyond, was appointed to his current post by President Donald J. Trump. He is focused on strengthening relationships with nations that uphold the core values of liberty, democracy, and human rights.
The meeting centered on the geopolitical landscape of the Western Balkans, addressing both the growing influence of malign actors such as Russia and China and the strategic opportunities for democratic advancement and regional cooperation. Both parties emphasized the urgent need for a stronger, values-based transatlantic alliance to support peace and democratic stability.
Mr Vulaj highlighted the historic friendship between the Albanian people and the United States, describing Albanians as a steadfast force for stability and freedom in the region. He urged greater U.S. engagement, stating that this bond should be reinforced by supporting Kosovo’s integration into NATO, securing recognition of Kosovo’s independence from the remaining four EU member states, and unlocking American private-sector investment in the Balkans.
The two also discussed regional economic development, particularly in the infrastructure and energy sectors, as a means of boosting long-term stability and prosperity.
The meeting underscores AARC’s continued efforts to advocate for stronger U.S.–Albanian relations and support for democratic progress across Southeast Europe
