Martin Vulaj

As a prominent community leader, Martin was heavily devoted to the crisis in the Balkans. When the war in Kosovo erupted, he felt compelled to help. With his strong love and commitment to his homeland, he was selected to serve as the Advisor to the US Representative of the Kosovo Liberation Army and then as Legal Counsel to the Provisional Government of Kosovo.


Shortly thereafter, Mr. Vulaj became the Executive Director of the National Albanian American Council located in Washington D.C. In this role, Mr. Vulaj interacted with the U.S. Department of State, key figures of the White House, Senate and House of Representatives and opinion and policy makers to help secure United States support for the independence of Kosova, democratic development of Albania, full integration of Albanians in Macedonian state structures and protection of minority rights for the Albanians in Serbia, Montenegro and Greece.


As part of his activities, Mr. Vulaj often appeared on CNN, Fox news and other television/radio programs, as well as, lectured at institutes in New York and Washington, published numerous articles in the Balkans and testified before Congress.

Martin was also instrumental in the creation and implementation of development programs such as the Women’s Leadership Program and the Interethnic Youth reconciliation program and successfully procured millions of Dollars of funding from USAID for their implementation and successful realization.

Martin collaborated with Public International Law and Policy Group on the draft constitution for Kosovo, the Ohrid Agreement. He collaborated with Harvard’s Justice in Times of Transition to bring all of the Kosovar leaders together to form a transition and reintegration plan for post war Kosovo. He also supported Macedonia’s decentralization process, Montenegro and Macedonia’s independence and Albania’s NATO integration process.

Martin studied Philosophy at Fairleigh Dickinson University graduating Cum Laude. He received his Juris Doctorate from Albany Law School.
